The European electricity network needs investments in three areas: first, replacing ageing equipment in the installed base, second, increasing the hosting capacity and, third, digitalisation to make the network smarter, more flexible and ensure and strengthen the grid’s resilience. Done in a timely and balanced manner will ensure cost-efficiency. T&D Europe is concerned that the current investments are insufficient. It is vital to ensure the post-COVID19 recovery plans developed by individual countries as well as by the EU include the necessary grid infrastructure investments.
